After a grueling win over the Bears in prime time last Monday, the Steelers continue their NFC North tour against the Lions. They will host the Lions at Heinz Field on Sunday as Detroit seeks its elusive first win of the season under head coach Dan Campbell.
The Steelers appear to be putting something together, having won their last four games. They're a half-game behind the Ravens in a tightly knotted AFC North. Najee Harris has emerged as a player teams have to account for, even if his consistency as an every-down back isn't there just yet. However, the offense will be running with a new quarterback after Ben Roethlisberger was added to the COVID-19 list late Saturday night and ruled out for the game. Mason Rudolph will take Roethlisberger's place.
The Lions are just seeking difference-makers right now. On both sides of the ball, it doesn't seem as if they have a player who can win any matchup. Jared Goff is running an extremely conservative offense, and outside of T.J. Hockenson he doesn't have anyone to throw to. The Lions are playing for the draft at this point, but they need to eke out one of these games in a 17-game season.
All of that bodes well for the Steelers. The only threat is a "Monday Night Football" hangover after the tough victory over Chicago. The Lions are coming off a bye, having licked their wounds after being trounced by the Eagles 44-6 two weeks ago. Perhaps that can give them an edge.
